Program Impact

To date, 209 New Hampshire schools have been benchmarked through the EnergySmart Schools program.

This represents:

• 48 school districts
• 78,750 students
• 13,200,000 square feet
• 76,600,000 kWh of annual electric consumption
• 549,800 MMBTU of annual heating consumption
• $19,000,000 of total annual utility costs

TRC’s work has greatly increased our ability to understand and manage our energy needs and costs. Prior to receiving the benchmarking report and our focus on it, I would say that we saw our energy bills as a given expense and now we feel empowered to make a difference in that area of our budget.

I have found the benchmarking to be an important tool in assessing the work we have already done in our school district as well as being very useful in planning what our next steps should be.
